For drinking water

Refer to the table below and depending on the water volume dissolve the appropriate tablet in the water and leave for 30 minutes before drinking.

Guideline value recommended by the World Health Organisation for emergencies and disasters is 5ppm. For effective disinfection there should be a residual concentration of free available chlorine of 0.5ppm after at least 30 minutes contact.

For Water Tanks

For the purification of water in tanks, 10ppm available chlorine is generally recommended. However, regular tank cleaning and disinfection is essential, guidelines as follows

• Dose static tank water to 5ppm available chlorine and leave for 5 minutes to drain off
• Using a suitable sanitising solution such as 200ppm solution mixed with neutral detergent (or Biospot Detergent Sanitister Tablets), thoroughly clean the tank and rinse out
• Place sufficient tablets in the tank and does to 60ppm, fill the tank with fresh water and leave overnight. Check for a chlorine residual of at least 50ppm before neutralising, drain off and resume use

For all new water pipe installations, dosing the system to 50ppm available chlorine for a minimum of 30 minutes before checking for a chlorine residual is recommmened.
